Easter Reflection
(1) We are here celebrating and remembering the resurrection of Jesus, and we want to reflect on the implications it has for us. And honestly, any reflection we can do this morning barely touches how amazing and important the resurrection is. Without it there is no Christianity; there is no hope beyond this life, with its pains and burdens and sins and terrors. But it did happen. Jesus did rise from the dead, and because of it we have an inexhaustible hope and a miraculous promise.
(1) Estamos hoy celebrando y recordando la resurreccion de Jesus, y queremos reflejar sobre las implicaciones que su resurrección tiene para nosotros. Sinceramente, cualquier refleccion que hagamos esta mañana apenas toca lo asombroso e importante que la resurrección es para nosotros. Sin la resurrección no hay cristiandad; no hay esperanza mas alla de esta vida de dolor, carga, pecado y terrores. Pero sucedió! Jesus se levanto de entre los muertos y por eso tenemos una fe inexhaustible y una promesa milagrosa.
(2) We’ve read a lot of scripture this morning; some of it was from a letter by Paul the Apostle. And it was a reminder…of just part of the way the resurrection of Jesus should influence the lives of people who have trusted God. He wrote, “…stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” And if there is one thing that we should leave here knowing–knowing in the depth of our souls–it is that because of the resurrection of Jesus nothing about our lives or what we might do with them is in vain, is without meaning.
(2) Hemos leido bastantes Escrituras esta mañana, parte de esas Escrituras fue de una carta de Pablo, el apostol. Y fue un recordatorio…de una parte de la manera que la resurrección de Jesus debiera influenciar las vidas de las personas que han confiado en Dios. Pablo escribe: “…estad firmes y constantes, creciendo siempre en la obra del Senor siempre, sabiendo que vuestro trabajo en el Senor no es vano.” Y si hay algo que al salir de aquí debemos de saber?saber en lo mas profundo de nuestras almas?es que por la resurrección de Jesus nada de nuestras vidas o lo que podamos hacer con ella es en vano, es sin significado.
(3) The resurrection tells us instead that our lives are filled with meaning. That the stuff we do with our bodies–does that make sense–the stuff we do with ourselves, the way we fill our time, and the things we say and do and eat and talk about with other people–it’s so important that God can’t let it go. He wants it for us, wants us to have bodies and all the stuff that goes along with them forever.
(3) La resurreccion nos dice que nuestras vidas estan llenas de significado. Que las cosas que hacemos con nuestros cuerpos?tienen sentido?que las cosas que hacemos con nosotros mismos, la manera como ocupamos el tiempo, y las cosas que decimos y hacemos, comemos y las cosas de lo que platicamos con otras personas?es tan importante que Dios lo quiere. Dios lo quiere para nosotros, quiere que tengamos nuestras cuerpos y lo que va con el cuerpo por siempre.
(4) Except that he wants us to have them as they should have been–without illnesses, without pains, cancers, exhaustion and anxieties.
(4) Excepto que el quiere que lo tengamos como debe de ser?sin enfermedad, sin dolor, sin canceres, exhaustacion y ansiedades.
(5) So our lives are filled with meaning, the things we do with ourselves before we die–none of them are in vain, worthless. This is balanced by the other great thing the resurrection tells us, which is simply that this life is not all there is. This life is so important, so important–but it’s not the end of life. There will come a day when Jesus’ resurrection fans out and touches everyone and everything; the world groans for it, and we do too–death will die.
(5) Asi que llenamos nuestras vidas de significado, las cosas que haremos antes de morir?ni una de ellas sera en vano, sin valor. Esto es equilibrado por la otra gran cosa que la resurrección nos dice, lo cual simplemente es que esta vida no es todo lo que hay. Esta vida es importante, tan importante?pero no es el fin. Vendra el dia cuando la resurrección de Jesus soplara y tocara a todos y a todas las cosas; el mundo gime por esto, nosotros tambien?la muerte morira.
(6) We could say so much: the resurrection gives shape to the way we live the lives we live right now. It influences our ethics and our behaviors, because in Jesus’ resurrection God validated everything Jesus did and said and promised us. And a whole lot of what Jesus did and said were things that taught us how we should live as his followers. So the resurrection–Easter–is a reminder that these incredibly valuable lives we lead right now are to be treated like it: we are not supposed to just enjoy our bodies and ourselves–we are supposed to live a certain way. Or rather, live like a certain one. like Jesus.
(6) Podriamos decir mucho mas: pero la resurreccion moldea la manera como vivimos nuestras vidas ahora. Influencia nuestra etica y nuestra conducta, porque en la resurrección de Jesus, Dios le da validez a todo lo que Jesus hizo, dijo y prometio a nosotros. Y mucho de lo que Jesus hizo y dijo son cosas que nos enseñan como debemos de vivir como seguidores de Jesus. ?? La resurrección de Jesús es un recordatorio que esta vida increíblemente valuable que vivimos ahora debe de ser tratado como tal. No debemos simplemente disfrutar nuestros cuerpos y nosotros mismos?supone que debemos de vivir en una cierta manera. O mejor, vivir como aquel. Vivir como Jesus vivio.
(7) And the resurrection also reminds us that the people around us aren’t living worthless lives either. We are surrounded by people who will someday be eternal. C. S. Lewis tells us that if we were to see our brothers and sisters as we someday will, on the other side of the resurrection, we would be tempted to worship each other. That’s how amazingly important the person to your right or left or in front or behind you is; they are someone God wants to spend forever with.
(7) Y la resurreccion nos hace recorder que la gente a nuestro alrededor no viven vidas que no son dignas de vivir tampoco. Que vivimos rodeados de personas que un dia seran eternas tambien. El escritor C.S. Lewis dice que si viesemos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas como un dia los veremos al otro lado de la resurrección, de repente estariamos tentados ahora a adorarles. Esto muestra cuan importante la persona a tu derecha, a tu izquierda, en frente o atrás de ti es; el/ella es alguien con quien Dios quiere pasar el resto de la eternidad.
(8) So we are gathered here because of what God has done in proving Jesus right, and revealing to all of us how faithful he is. We are here remembering and worshiping God for the unexpected, surprising miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. It changed the course of history; it validated everything Jesus said. It gives us a hope that our lives won’t be in vain, it reminds us of how important this life is, but how it isn’t the final story for any of us. And it tells us that how important it is for us to live this life–while we have it–for the Lord.
(8) Asi que aqui estamos reunidos por lo que Dios ha hecho, probar a Jesus justo, y revelandonos su fidelidad. Estamos aquí recordando y adorando a Dios por el milagro inesperado y sorprendente de la resurrección de Jesus. La resurrección cambio el rumbo de la historia; le dio validez a todo lo que Jesus dijo y enseño. Nos da la esperanza de que nuestras vidas no seran en vano. Nos recuerda de cuan importante esta vida es, pero no es el final de la historia para nosotros. Y nos dice que tan importante es vivir esta vida?mientras la tengamos?para el Señor.
(9) When Jesus showed up in that room with all those people who thought that there lives were over, because they had trusted him but he had been killed, Jesus tells them “Peace be with you.” This morning we need to hear that. Peace be with us. God is far more powerful than we could ever imagine.
(9) Cuando Jesus se aparecio en el aposento alto a todos sus discipulos que creian que sus vida ya no tenia sentido ni proposito, que todo habia terminado, pues ellos confiaban en el, pero lo habian matado, Jesus les dice: “Paz a vosotros”. Esta mañana eso es lo que necesitamos oir. Paz sea a nosotros. Dios es mucho mas poderoso de lo que nos podemos imaginar.
(10) Our work for the Lord will never be in vain; because nothing about us is in vain, is worthless. Our worth comes from someone who faced death, and won, so that we might do the same some day. And there will come a day when we gather together again, after some of us or all of us have passed away, and when that day comes we won’t have to be reminded of the resurrection, because we will be living right in the middle of Easter all
the time. That’s a great hope. Let’s hold onto it.
(10) Nuestra labor para el Senor nunca es en vano. Porque nada de nosotros es en vano, sin valor para Dios. Nuestra validez viene de aquel que se enfrento a la muerte y le gano, para que nosotros un dia podamos hacer lo mismo. Y vendra un dia cuando nos juntemos otras vez, después de que algunos de nosotros partamos a la eternidad y cuando ese dia venga, no se nos va a tener que recordar de la resurrección, porque estaremos ahí mismo en resurrección todo el tiempo. Esta es nuestra gran esperanza. Aferremonos a esta esperanza.
